Where Help Is
Needed
Father Ed has compiled this list of the Top
Areas of Urgent Need. It is our hope that, as you
prayerfully consider contributing to the mission works in
Turkana, this list will help guide you if you should choose
to earmark your donations for a specific project. These
needs are not listed in any particular order of importance.
Each of these needs is critical and worthy of support. As
always, if you have any questions about these or any
projects going on in the Turkana District, feel free to
contact Diana and I or Father Ed. Our contact information
can be found on the contact page of our website:

-
Digging of wells, especially in the outstations further
from the main mission site.
-
Further development of the irrigation schemes located
around the main mission site to assist the Turkana
people in developing their own, sustainable food supply.
-
School sponsorship programs to give primary school
children the opportunity to attend secondary schools.
-
Continued construction of classrooms to ease the
congestion in classrooms. It is not uncommon to have
seventy-five or more students in one class.
-
Construction of pit latrines in the schools for the
teachers and the pupils. The current situation is
unsanitary and poses a health risk to the students and
staff.
-
Renovating and construction new schools in areas where
the current buildings are falling down and expanding
some existing schools. Many of the current schools in
the outlying areas have only enough space for
kindergarten through third grade.
-
Building of small Churches, especially in the
outstations, where people currently congregate under
thorn trees to protect themselves from the sun and
elements.
-
Provision of uniforms for kids with no parents in the
primary schools. For many of these children, school
uniforms are the only suitable clothing they own.
-
Construction of housing for teachers on the school
grounds. Most of the teachers at this mission leave
their family homes to serve the educational needs of the
children at the mission. This results in teachers living
in very cramped, unsuitable housing. Often times they
are forced to rent housing in areas far from the
mission. This adds great burden to an already
over-burdened of teachers serving God’s children.
-
Provision of Solar power to more classrooms and school
buildings. This will allow the students to study at the
school in the evenings. This important to assist the
students in preparing for the national exams that must
be passed in order to attend secondary school.

Radio
Equipment for the Dispensary (health clinic) to call for
help in emergency situations
