Turkana Children's Foundation

Greetings,

Diana and I have been considering how to best assist the children in the Turkana District of Kenya.  The documentaries are complete and in distribution.  We are hopeful they will remain an affect means of continued fundraising for this most desperate region of the world.

Diana and I believe strongly that the key to freedom, self-emancipation, is education.  The old adage, “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime” applies very well to this region and all of the Third World.

Because of the Grace of God and the generous contributions of our Christian brothers and sisters, six Turkana children have been sponsored and are now enrolled in boarding schools in Kenya.  Not only are they receiving much needed education, they are being fed, clothed, receiving health care, and most importantly they are being loved and nurtured in their young lives.

Diana and I have decided to establish a foundation, “The Turkana Children’s Foundation” to provide continued sponsorship for secondary education to children in this region.  Remember, secondary education in Kenya is a privilege, not a right.  None of the children in Turkana could ever hope to afford the gift of this educational experience.

As we have shared with you before, the cost of a year at boarding school is only $200 U.S. per child per year.  Our goal for this year is to establish this foundation and secure it with $10,000 in funds.  Meeting this goal will accomplish some important things.

  1. Provide ongoing sponsorship for the kids already enrolled to ensure they will be funded throughout their secondary education.
  2. Provide hope and motivation to the children at the Turkwell mission by presenting the opportunity for sponsorship if they do well in primary school.
  3. Lessen the burden of “on demand” fund raising.  This will help both the SMA leaders in the region, the teachers and the students plan and prepare for a students transition into secondary school.

As always, Diana and I will not manage any funds for this or any other project of Worship Films.  It is our hope to be free of any questions concerning stewardship or handling of donations.  Donations to this foundation will be given to our parish office and deposited into an account, specifically maintained for sponsorship of these children, by Father Edward Muge who oversees the sponsorship of these children.  This allows donors to benefit from a tax deduction by donating the money to a non-profit organization.  Diana and I have yet to establish ourselves as such.  A full accounting of last years spending has been made and is still available on request.  Subsequent accounts will be made annually by Father Ed.

If you would like to make a donation to the foundation of would like more information on this new and exciting program, please contact Diana and I by following the links on the contact page of this web site.

May God Bless and keep you all.  May the good Lord stamp eternity upon our eyes.
